John was born in 1850. He was the son of James Bonner and Lydia Vezey. He passed away in 1941.

When John Bonner was born on August 7, 1850, in Harrison, Missouri, his father, James, was 37 and his mother, Lydia, was 39. In 1854, John moved with his family in a covered wagon to Ringgold County Iowa, where his father, James, would settle a farm, deeded from President Franklin Pierce,that would stay in the Bonner name for 127 years.

He married Paulina Jane Payne on December 31, 1885, in Ringgold, Iowa. He then had three sons, James, Squire Edward, John Benton, and two daughters, "Marie" (Burchett), and Margaret Pauline (Trower), between 1887 and 1899. He also raised Paulina's daughter, Bertha(Tripp), from her first marriage, although never formally adopting Bertha.

He died on November 18, 1941, in Kellerton, Iowa, at the age of 91, and was buried there.
