Biography
Roscoe, son of William "Roscoe" Bonsal and Mary Minturn Potter, was born 13 February 1901 in North Carolina.[1][2] The family moved to North Carolina about 1904, settling in Hamlet, Marks Creek Township, Richmond County.[3] There in 1910 the family was composed of his parents William R. (age 42, b. Maryland) and Mary (40, b. Rhode Island), Roscoe (9, b. South Carolina), and his siblings Edith Minturn (7, b. North Carolina [sic])[4] and Warwick (4, b. North Carolina).[3] His father was a contractor for the railroad.[3]
About 1928 he married Agnes Almy Coleman,[5][6] daughter of Joseph Griswold Coleman, Jr., and Agnes Almy.[6]
In 1930, William R. (age 29) and his wife of two years Agnes C. (23) lived together in Camden, Kershaw County, South Carolina.[5] There William owned a gravel plant.[5] His company was involved in a federal tax dispute in 1960, which was decided in his favor.[7]
His wife died from metastasized lung cancer on 14 June 1965.[6] William survived her until 17 July 1979, when he died in Camden[1] and was buried in the Quaker Cemetery there.[2]
