Biography

Anderson was born about 1842 in Florida. He was a farmer on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina[1] before enlisting in the Union Army during the Civil War. He served with the 34th U.S. Colored Infantry and later was a Buffalo Soldier with Company H of the 9th U.S. Cavalry Regiment.

Anderson settled in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas after his military service. By 1880 he had married to wife Carrie Jackson and had one child. He was listed in the San Antonio directory as a City Engineer, employed by the city. In 1887 he filed for an invalid pension based on his military service. By 1900 Anderson and Carrie had seven children and he was listed as a surveyor in the Federal census. He passed away in Bexar County, Texas in 1926 and was buried in San Antonio National Cemetery.
