Biography

Maria was born about 1681 (the probable year her husband was born). She passed away after 1726 (when she had her last known child).

The Erfgoed Tielt website proposes that she is the daughter of Eustachius Boon (buried 8 Sep 1693 Houwaart) and Catharina Jelhije (buried 29 Dec 1718 in Houwaart). (This couple married 17 June 1679 and four children are found in the Houwaart registers.) However see below, concerning the contemporary and apparent close relative of Eustachius, Arnoldus Boon.

St Pieters Rode had spiritual jurisdiction over many neighbouring areas including a significant part of Houwaart.

Children's baptisms, in the Sint Pieters Rode register:

  • Arnoldus bap. 23 Sep 1715. God-parents Arnoldus Boon and Maria Kokaerts. The parents are from Houwaart and the mother is specifically said to be from Houwaart.
  • Catharina bap. 16 Feb 1722 (God-parents?)
  • Petrus bap. 30 Jan 1726

Maria Kokaerts is probably the mother of the father. Arnoldus Boon must logically be a very close relative of Maria Boon, for example her father. Aart (short for Arnoud, Arnoldus) the name of the only Boon householder in the 1702 census of Houwaart. He and his wife and one child above 14 years and one above 7. In the Sint-Pieters-Rode register, an Arnoldus Boon and his wife Joanna de Jongh, specifically a couple from Houwaart, had a son Joannes baptized 13 Sep 1686. (God-parents Joannes Schoelant and Anna de Jongh.) They had previously had a son of the same name baptized 30 Jan 1685. (God-parents Eustachius Boon in the place of Joannes de Jonghe, and Francisca Goijsens.) And their marriage is in the Houwaart register where Joanna seems to have been a parishioner. (Arnoldus Boen married Joanna De Jonck 13 Feb 1684. Witnesses Eustachius Boen and Angelus Teggers, who must be the Engel Teggers that was a schepen who signed off on the 1702 census.)

Because the first son named Joannes must have died as a baby, it seems sure that Arnold and Joanna had at least one more child, between 7 and 14 years before 1702. This could have been Maria.
