Biography

Harold Joseph Booth was born in 1879.[1] He was the son of Joseph Booth and Susannah Jones.


He served with the 1st NZ Contingent 2nd Company during the 2nd Boer War.

Harold was killed in action on 21 January 1900.

He is buried in the Colesberg British Military Cemetery, Colesberg, Pixley ka Seme District Municipality, Northern Cape, South Africa[1]

Booth.—Killed in action, at Rendsburg, South Africa, on January 24th, Trooper Harold Joseph Booth, of the First New Zealand Contingent, 2nd Company, aged 21 years, oldest son of the late Joseph Booth and Mrs C. W. Cooke, of Oamaru.[2]

Trooper Harold Joseph Booth, the fourth member of the New Zealand contingent who died fighting in South Africa is a nephew of the Hon. Hall-Jones who was a member of the North Otago Mounted Rifles.[3]
