John first purchased property in Scituate, Massachusetts, in 1684. Thereafter he continued to acquire land, both as a member of the Conihasset Grant proprietors and as a Scituate resident. [9] He participated in town affairs as an inspector of highways and by performing jury duty. [2] He also owned slaves. [10]
John died on 6 Feb 1718 in Scituate, Massachusetts, leaving his wife and six daughters. [4][1] His only son, Anthony, predeceased him, childless and unmarried. [2][8]
