Catherine Booth Stuart was born on August 26, 1881, in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. Her parents were Joseph Gordon Stuart, a writer to the signet, and Manerieffe Leitch.[1]

In 1891, according to the Scotland census, Catherine was 9 years old and living with her parents, 3 siblings, 2 servants and a house guest at their home on Northumberland Street in Edinburgh. Her father was a writer to the signet. [2]

In 1901 Catherine was 19 years old and attending school. She lived with her parents, two siblings and a servant at their home in Morningside Place, Edinburgh. [3]

She married Frank Oldham in about 1911 (source needed). Together they had 4 children:

  1. Stuart Trevor Oldham (1912–1975)
  2. Frances Kathleen Oldham (1914–2015)
  3. John Moncrieffe Oldham (1919-1994)

Katherine made a trip back to Scotland and returned with her son Stuart Trevor, age 4. She was 31 years old and when asked if she had been to Canada before she said yes, between 1910 and 1913 for two and a half years. They were travelling on the Grampian and arrived in Quebec on May 4, 1914. [4]

In 1921 she was 39 years old and living with her husband, three children and a lodger. They were renting a home in the Nanaimo district on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, made of wood with seven rooms. Her husband was employed as an Imperial Army Officer. [5]

In 1922 she returned to Scotland to visit her father. She indicated that her father paid for her voyage on her immigration forms when she returned to Canda. At the time she used the name Kitty. [6]

Katherine drowned in the seat at Mill Bay Beach on August 12, 1950 at the age of 69 years. [7] She was laid to rest at The Anglican Church of Saint John the Baptist Cemetery in Cowichan Valley, British Columbia, Canada on August 15, 1950. [8]
