Biography

From http://boozer.net/boozerfamily/howwe.htm: Ulrich II (Buser-46), the only son of Ulrich I (Buser-54), married twice, both times to Swiss girls who had come with their parents to the same village. Ulrich II (Buser-46) had a boy and a girl by his first wife, and seven sons by his second wife. All were born in the Saxe Gotha township. Of the eight sons, only three had male children, and they were all sons by his second wife. They were : Jacob (Boozer-57), Friedrich (Boozer-56) and Heinrich (Boozer-27). Therefore, all Boozers in South Carolina are descended from either Jacob, Friedrich, or Heinrich.

Jacob (Boozer-57) was born in 1752 and died around 1815. He and his brothers Friedrich (Boozer-56) and Heinrich (Boozer-27) sided with the Americans in the Revolution whereas their father, Ulrich II, and all their other full brothers were Tory loyalists. Jacob's half brother (by Ulrich II’s first marriage) died before fighting came to South Carolina, so he didn’t take sides.

Ulrich II's loyalty to the King can be understood, having received land from his father from the King’s land grant. One can also imagine Jacob's older brothers also siding with the Tories because of loyalty to their tather (Ulrich II). There is less explanation for three younger brothers sided with the Tories. One of Jacob’s Tory loyalist brothers may have fled to foreign soil after the Revolution and disappeared from documents. Two of Jacob’s Tory loyalist brothers were killed in the revolution, fighting for the British.
