Børge Rosenbaum known professionally as Victor Borge, was a Danish comedian, conductor and pianist who achieved great popularity in radio and television in the United States and Europe. He was known as The Clown Prince of Denmark.

Børge Marinus Rosenbaum is shown on the 1916 Denmark Census living at Classensgade 40, Fourth Floor, København with his parents, Bernhard and Frederikke Rosenbaum, and brother Evald Asbjørn Rosenbaum.[1]

Elsie Shilton and Børge Rosenbaum were married on 24 Dec 1933 in Paris.[2] Victor and Elsie had two children.

He arrived in New York on 28 Aug 1940 aboard the ship American Legion,[3] a US Army transport ship, which embarked in Petsamo, Finland. The ship had been sent by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to evacuate Crown Princess Märtha of Norway and Mrs. J. Borden Harriman, former Minister to Norway. You can read more about the ship American Legion.

Victor Borge filed his Declaration of Intention to become a US citizen on 4 April 1942 in the US District Court, Southern District of California. In it he confirmed the data regarding his birth and arrival in the United States.[4]

In 1944, Børge Rosenbaum, now known as Victor Borge, lived at 4368 Troost av, North Hollywood; Studio City, California, USA. He is shown as an Actor, living with his spouse, Elsie Borge.[5]

He filed his Petition for Naturalization in the Federal District Court, Los Angeles, California, on 15 March 1948. His petition included his wife Elsie, to whom he was married at Copenhagen on 24 Dec 1933.[2]

Victor Borge was naturalized as a US citizen on 15 April 1948 in the Southern District of California, Los Angeles.[6]

Victor and Elsie were divorced in 1951. On 17 March 1953, he married Sarabel Sanna Scraper, and they remained together until her death in 2000. They had three children.

During his career, Borge made many trips to Europe, including one in 1957 to England.[7]

Ninety-one year old Victor Borge died on 23 Dec 2000 at Greenwich, Fairfield, Connecticut. He was a widower and his wife had been named Sanna.[8] According to FindAGrave and Wikipedia, half of his cremated remains were buried at the Putnam Cemetery, Greenwich, Fairfield, Connecticut [9] in the same plot as his wife Sanna Scraper Borge, who had died in Sept 2000. The other half of his remains were buried in the Mosaisk Vestre Begravelsesplads (Western Jewish Cemetery), Copenhagen, Hovedstaden, Denmark: Section 8, row D, No. 53/55.[10]
