Obituary

The Late Mr. G. R. Borland. —
A most pronounced manifestation of the esteem and regard in which the late Mr. Geo. R. Borland was held throughout the district, was evidenced by the immense procession which followed the remains of our departed townsman to the cemetery on Sunday afternoon. A keen observer reports that there were upwards of 120 vehicles in the cortege. About forty members of the Manchester Unity Lodge preceded the hearse, and immediately after the chief mourners came over twenty members of the Carlton Football Club, of which deceased had been a Vice-President for many years, and of which his son Bob is a prominent member. Numerous Uralla and Hillgrove residents were present at the funeral, and amongst those from adjoining districts, who also came to pay their last tribute of respect to an honoured friend was Mr. Jos. Brissett, of Inverell. The service of burial in the Anglican cemetery was conducted by the Rev. H. R. Nixon, of Hillgrove, the Ven. Archdeacon Lewis being absent in Sydney. On behalf of the M.U.O.O.F., Mr. C. Cooper also read an impressive service, after which the polished cedar casket, covered with beautiful floral devices, was lowered beneath the turf. Mr. C. J. Hirschberg had charge of the funeral arrangements. During Friday and the succeeding days messages of condolence were received by the sadly bereaved family from friends in Sydney, Brisbane, Bega, Bendemeer, Bembooka, Uralla, Walcha, Inverell, Newcastle, Barraba, Wandsworth, and Armidale. Floral tributes were placed on the grave from the sorrowing sons and daughters, Mr. J. B. Fitzgerald, Mr. and Mrs. C. Fitzgerald, Mr. and Mrs. Bonnar, Mr. and Mrs. Mann, Mr. Attwater and Miss Stewart, Mrs. A. U. Trim, Mr. and Mrs. W. Palmer, Mrs. J. Jackes, Miss Jackes, Mr. A. Brissett (Sydney), Mrs. J. C.
