Text: On May 25, 1718, LA MARIE, commanded by M. Jappy, sailed from LaRochelle, accompanied by two other ships, LA DUCHESSE de NOAILLES and LA VICTOIRE. On baord LA MARIE were compnay employees, concessionaires and their people, private passengers, prisoners, officers and troops. Among the most noted of the passengers were the Delaire brothers, Jean Baptiste and Michel, of Paris, and their three associates, Francois Chastang of Nime, Alexis Robert and Antoine de la Rue, also of Parish who came to establish the Demeuves Concession. The ship passenger list also included the names of two German Coast progenitors, ANTOINE BORNE, of Valenciennes and JEAN BAPTISTE BOURGEOIS, of Palisseau. After a voyage of three months, the three ships arrived at Dauphin Islande, south of present-day Mobile, Alabama, on August 25, 1718. Although the Delaires originally were directed to establish their concession on Red River, the shortage of boats to transport them to their original destination caused them to choose instead a site about thirty-three miles above New Orleans that formerly was occupied by the Taensas Indians, and that later would become an integral part of German Coast.

Almost three years prior to the arrival of the Germans, Antoine BORNE, ,native of Valenciennes in France, came to Louisiana on the ship, LA MARIE. (510) Antoine BORNE had traveled to Louisiana from his native France for the purpose of working on the Demeuves Concession, which later became the nucleus of the German Coast.
In 1974 Mr. Huey U BORNE, of Chalmette, Louisiana, received a letter from LE CONSERVATEUR of the Biblioteque Municpale of Valenciennes. (511) From information in the letter, one learns that Michel LEBORNE had married twice. From his first marriage to Marie Jeanne ANART, in approximately 1693, ten children were born between 1694 & 1705. According to LE CONSERVATEUR, nine of the ten children died at a young age. Using microfilm of the church of Notre Dame of Valenciennes, the following children of Michel LEBORNE and Marie Jeanne MANART were found:

Addiitonal information on the ancestry of Jacques Antoine BORNE was recently published in the quarterly of the German-Acadian Coast Historical & Genealogical Society, Le Voyageurs. In the September 1995 issue, an article written by Mr. Clayton J. BORNE, III. appeared, which was entitled "The Family BORNE." (526)
From an October 1726 list of persons requesting slaves from the Company, one learns that Jacques Antoine LEBORNE was a resident at the Bayougoulas. On 1 July 1727, a census was take of the right bank of the Mississippi River, ascending from New Orleans. Residing between Francois CHEVAL and Rene DORVAIN were Antoine LEBORNE, his wife and one child. (527)
Six years later, on the census of 1731, BORNE'S wife and 3 children were residing at Anse aux Outardes. (528) which was in the vicinity of present-day Norco in the civil parish of St. Charles. On a list of landowners along the Mississippi River from its mouth to the German villages, Jacques Antoine LEBORNE was listed residing on property which he claimed by possession. (529)
After the indian raid of 1748, in chich at least one of the immediate neighbors, Francois CHEVAL, was murdered, Jacques Antoine LEBORNE moved to the west bank of the river and settles near the lower end of the original Demeuve Concession tract, above present-day Hahnville.
