Biography

A younger son.

On 19th February 1600/01 the Privy Council called upon William Sinclair of Roslin on the one part, and to William Borthwick, tutor of Borthwick, brother of the later James, Lord Borthwick, with John and Alexander Borthwick, his brothers, on the other part, to appear before the Council this day to answer a charge that the stated Borthwicks had issued a written challenge (presumably of violence) to Sinclair. The tutor (present) argued that he was not part of this and had no knowledge of it. John and Alexander failed to appear and were denounced rebels.[1]
