Biography

The birth and death year dates are given on a black and white photo in Sananda Lal Ghosh's book about his brother's life, with the full death date in the text p.50. Their mother was the daughter of Sri and Srimata Govinda Chandra Bose, her father a Deputy Magistrate of Rajibpur, Calcutta, West Bengal, India. She may have married in about 1884 and had 8 children with her husband Bhagabati. In order of birth they were Ananta Lal in about 1885 in Rangoon, Roma Shashi and Uma Sashi in Muzaffarpur, Mukunda Lal in 1893 in Gorakhpur, Nalini Sundari in Calcultta, Sananda Lal in 1898 in Gorakhpur, Purnamoyee in 1901 or 1902 in Lahore and Bishnu Charan about 1904 also in Lahore. Gyana was the children's principal guiding light having been initiated in Kriya Yoga by the great Master Lahiri Mahasaya as had her husband. She died at the young age of about 36 in 1904, when Bishnu was only 10 months old, of Asiatic cholera, so the youngest two children barely knew their mother.
