Biography

"James Bosley was born in about 1737 in Baltimore, Maryland. His parents were Charles Bosley and Elizabeth Cox.

Marriage St. John's Parish Register.
"James Bozley & Rach'l Gorsuch marr'd Sep.r 18th 1760" [1]

They had five known children. Descendants and relatives lived in Maryland, Tennessee, Louisiana, Texas and elsewhere."[2]

Served as the Captain of the Horse under famous general "Lighthorse Harry Lee" during the American Revolution. Captain James, was one of the first settlers in Davidson County, Tennessee. He was a sturdy pioneer and lived to the age of 104. He had come to Tennessee from Baltimore County, Maryland where the Bosley family had settled in the 1600's. They were of English decent and were known as a family of great plantations and wealth. Captain James was also a wealthy man and had acquired much acreage as Bounty Lands for his service in the war.

Although research has not been done on this, it is quite possible that the land James Robertson Bosley inherited from his father, John Bosley, was part of this property. In his will proved in 1844 in Davidson County, Tennessee, John bequeathed "to my two sons, James Bosley and Randal Bosley all my share of land on the Red River in Louisiana which is now in their possession."
