Biography

Martha was born in 1909. She passed away 1988. She was a Proof reader for Rogers Typesetting Co. the majority of her adult life. She was born on a farm near Batesville to William Bosse and Anna Kops [1] . Our family inherited the cradle the family used for all the children. It had been stored in the barn on the farm and forgotten. Roy Bosse, the eldest son, gave the cradle to Janice Wall-Buker, when she was a teenager. She has cherished it and it has been rebuilt twice due to glue drying out and failing. It was purchased shortly after the time William and Anna married. It was one of a few pieces that they owned that were made by the Batesville Furniture Co. The other pieces were a bedroom suite consisting of a double poster bed, washstand and dresser and a huge wardrobe made in three pieces to be more portable. One of my memories was Grandma and Grandpa (Art) taking us to visit her family. We would usually go to visit Aunt Lyd and Uncle Chet. Uncle Chet Weideman worked a farm near Penntown, Indiana. They lived across the road from the German Lutheran Church that the Bosse's belonged too. Once a year the church had a chicken dinner potluck. I didn't always get to attend but when I did it was always great fun spending time playing with all our cousins. Aunt Lyd and Uncle Chet did not have indoor plumbing or heat, in fact, I don't believe that any of her siblings that lived in Ripley or Franklin County had any of the modern conveniences that I took for granted. I also remember spending the night and having to use a chamber pot because it was to risky to go to the outhouse at night. They lived on a main two lane highway which also intersected with the railroad. There were a lot of hobos that followed the railroad and occasionally stopped to ask for food or work,[2]
