Hi Gavin, I sent you a private message. Robert Boswell arrived in the Cape in early 1806 with the 21st Light Dragoons (Royal Windsor Forresters). He was married in 1812. Cheers, John Boswell

We've made a change in how the tutorials are sent to new members. Instead of weekly messages you can now work at your own pace, so this is the last message.

How is it going so far? Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions?

We want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

PS Sometimes links don't work in emails. You can always find a link that works in the public comments on your profile.

Gavin--

You've been here for three weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know all of us a little better. You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer. As always, your questions are welcome!

Hi,

It's time for your next stop on the guided tour!

This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.

Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!

If links don't work from your email, please go to the public comments on your profile and it will work from there. Let us know if you have questions! Just click my name above this comment, then ask in the comment section of my profile. We want to help!

Hi Gavin, a very warm welcome to WikiTree! I just merged the profile of your progenitor Boswell-1300. You have been sourcing well, thanks! The remarks in blue are just general remarks that I usually place to aid the collaborative editing process.

I happened to notice your email adress. What a privilege it is to have edited the progenitor of the famous South African Boswell (Wilky) circus family ... That circus must have made millions of children and adults laugh over the years; I still have vivid memories as a child going there with my parents and siblings.

Welcome to WikiTree!

First of all a few handy links to get you started:

  1. Getting Started
  2. Adding to WikiTree.
  3. What are duplicates? Why should and how can they be avoided?
  4. G2G Help - for any questions you may have ....

Perhaps you would like to join the South African Roots Project to learn a bit how everything works here at WikiTree? We are working on help pages for everyone can learn more about WikiTree and how everything works around here.

Hi Gavin

I see that you just did the Pre-1700 Self-Certification. That's great! Also noticed you made 336 contributions to Wikitree, thank you! Here at WikiTree we like to have our members involved with others; collaboration is key!

By your tags I thought you might be interested in our South African project. Here is a list of our other WikiTree projects you might like to check out: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Projects

Why don't you also stop by the One Name Studies project, to see if there's already a name study for (surname) going on? The current leaders for that are Doug Lockwood and Alison Andrus.

Hi Gavin,

Thanks for joining us! I’m David, a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site.

Did you have fun learning your way around WikiTree yesterday?

I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Do you have any questions I can answer?

Thank you for volunteering! I am pleased to confirm your membership to WikiTree.

As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree. Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can also meet some of us in the G2G forum. Feel free to jump in and answer our Question Of The Week: Were any of your ancestors involved in the American Indian Wars?

If you have trouble with the links in this message, try clicking through from your profile page.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer your questions.

Hello and welcome to WikiTree!

The email we just sent has helpful links to get you started.

WikiTree is different from other genealogy websites because our goal is to create one big family tree with ONE PROFILE PER PERSON. This means we all work together on our shared ancestors.

When you confirm your email address, you’ll be given an opportunity to volunteer to help document our collective family history. Use the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests. It can be a name, like SMITH, or a place, like AUSTRALIA. Be sure to click the "Enter Tag(s) and Volunteer" button when you finish!

After you volunteer, one of us will be by to confirm your membership. Then you'll be able to add your family!

Hope to see you soon!

Vicky
