1875 Minnesota State Census: Octavia Rood, age 60, lived in Albert Lea, Freeborn, Minnesota, in the home of her daughter, Elvira O. Martin, age 47, and Elvira's husband, Walter J., 49, and their children, James R., 20; Jason W., 18; Alice M., 17; Lilly M., 14; and Henry A., 12. Also present in the home were Octavia's son, Robert R. Rood, 45, and granddaughter, Effie Dixon, age 9, child of Ella Lucina (Rood) Dixon. Walter was born in New York, his father was born in Connecticut, and his mother was born in Vermont. Elvira was born in New York. Their children were born in Wisconsin. Octavia and Robert were born in New York, as were their parents. Effie was born in Wisconsin, her father was born in Wisconsin, and her mother was born in New York.[3]
1885 Minnesota State Census: Octavia Rood, age 77, lived in in Pickerel Lake, Freeborn County, Minnesota, in the home of her daughter, Alvira O. Martin, age 55, and her husband, W.J. Martin, 59, and their children Jason W., 27, and Lillian M., 24. Also present was Octavia's son Robt. R. Rood, age 53, and Susie M. Lee, age 5. W.J., Alvira, Octavia, and Robert were all born in New York. Jason, Lillian, and Susie were all born in Wisconsin. The entire family is checked as deaf, dumb, blind, insane, or idiotic. [4]
