Biography

Noah is the descendant of four Mayflower passengers: John Howland, Elizabeth Tilley and her parents, John and Joan (Hurst) Tilley.

Birth

Noah Bosworth was born on 4 March 1737 in Halifax, Plymouth, Massachusetts to Jonathan Bosworth and Ruth Tilson.

in 1750, Samuel Waterman of Halifax was appointed to be his guardian.[1]

In 1751, he received a distribution from his brother, Jabez Bosworth's estate.[2]

  1. Alice Bosworth born 30 September 1727. She married Waterman. She died on 18 April 1802 in Halifax, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA.

  3. Jabez Bosworth born 3 July 1732. He died on 3 December 1747.
  4. Zadoc Bosworth born 2 December 1734. He died on 10 December 1775.
  5. Ichabod Bosworth born 9 July 1739. He died on 15 September 1808.

  3. Stephen Bosworth was born on 25 January 1772 in Plympton, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
  4. Hannah Bosworth was born on 28 September 1775 in Plympton, Plymouth, Massachusetts. She died on 24 March 1777 in Plympton, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA.
  5. Zadock Bosworth was born on 12 July 1778 in Plympton, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA. He married Sibbel Cummings (1787-1842) in about 1804. He died on 16 November 1855 in Sumner, Oxford, Maine, USA.
  6. William Bosworth was born on 17 June 1782 in Sumner, Oxford, Maine, USA. He married Remember Briggs (1783-1857).

Residence

In 1783 Noah settled West Butterfield Plantation, later Sumner. The main occupation was the provision of water power for mills provided by two branches of the Nezinscot River. There were 3 sawmills, 2 gristmills, 2 shingle mills, a starch factory, a clove mill and a powder bill by 1859. In 1805 Oxford County was set off from Cumberland County.

Death and Burial

He died on 20 April 1811 in Sumner, Oxford, Maine, USA at the age of 74.

Noah Bosworth Revolutionary War Service: Apri l 19, 1775- marched to Marshfield as a private in Capt Thomas Loring's Co. Dec 1776- put in Capt Thomas Samson's Co. Col Thomas Lotrops Regiment, Brig J oseph Cushings brigade Marched to Bristol, RI, serving 11 days. Roll dated Plympton (Mass Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolution, Vol 2, pg. 2 99, 382 Source Bosworth Gen., pg. 574.

1778 moved to Cumberland County, Maine First permanent settler of Sumner, Me. (Bosworth G en, pg. 575).

Wife asked that son Noah be appointed administrator of estate (Bosworth Gen, pg. 575). May 19, 1812 heirs are sons Noah, Stephen, Zadock, William and daught er-in-law Mary C Bosworth. This indicates that Jonathan was dead at this time.
