Be aware that many / most of the 18th and certainly nearly all of the pre-1700 South African genealogical lines and profiles (and earlier) have already been made.

First of all a few handy links to get you started:

  1. Getting Started
  2. Adding to WikiTree.
  3. Pre-1700 Quiz (self-certifying in order to understand better how to de pre-1700 genealogical work on WikiTree)
  4. What are duplicates? Why should and how can they be avoided?
  5. G2G Help - for any questions you may have ....

Perhaps you would like to join the South African Roots Project first to learn a bit how everything works here at WikiTree? We are working on help pages for everyone can learn more about WikiTree and how everything works around here.

Hi Alta, a warm welcome to WikiTree. Before you proceed any further you might want to change the spelling of the suffix of your married name to one with a lower case spelled du Plessis ... South Africa has as many other European languages different spelling conventions than the United States.

Hi Alta,

You’ve been here about a week now so I thought I’d check in with you to see how it’s going. We have a condensed How-Tos or all things Wikitree to help you moving forward.

Give me a shout if I can help in any way.

Hi Alta,

Thanks for joining us! I’m David, a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site.

Did you have fun learning your way around WikiTree yesterday?

I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Do you have any questions I can answer?

Thanks for volunteering.

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree. Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum:Have you attended a family reunion this summer?

Welcome!

Welcome to WikiTree!

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!

You'll get an email from us that has helpful links to get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any other genealogy site out there.

When you confirm your email address, you’ll have an opportunity to volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests.

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? Fill in the tags and comments on your profile to show what you're researching? and click the "Save Tag(s) and Volunteer" button, and one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you’ll be on your way!
