Biography

Anthony was born on 13 January 1852. He was baptised in Tulbagh on 21 February 1852. His baptism was witnessed by his paternal grandparents: Philip Rudolph Botha [1] and Anna Rabie [2]. Anthony was a trader living in the Worcester district when he married Eliza Chapman in Caledon on 24th May 1876. Their wedding was witnessed by "Susan Chapman" (who is likely to be Eliza's younger sister) and "F J Boltman" (possibly Frederick Jacobus Boltman [3]). It appears that there was a close relationship between the Boltman and Botha/Chapman families, as the daughter of Anthony Botha and Eliza Chapman was named Sarah Hendrina Boltman Botha and her baptism was witnessed by Jacobus Cornelis Boltman[4]. Anthony later became a farmer. He and Eliza had eleven children before Eliza passed away in November 1901. Anthony married Kathleen Vernon Carder, a 42 year old widow, in Cape Town on 6th July 1902. He he passed away in Worcester on 20 October 1905.
