Biography

When Rosalie Bouchard was born on March 24, 1842, in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada, her father, Medard, was 30, and her mother, Emerence Cyr, was 30. She married Vital Victor Hector Bourassa on November 22, 1864. They had eight children in 16 years. In 1869 they moved to K ankakee County, Illinois and resided there until 1883. While living here, he was an architect in Chicago, Illinois. They decided to move west and took up a homestead in Section 22, southeast of Turton in Turton Township, Dakota Territory. Eleven children were born to them and included: Rose (Mrs. Edward Fortin), Victor Paul, Mary (Mrs. Norbert Barrie), Napolean Paul, Hector, Frederick, Caroline (Mrs. Charles Peltier), Alfred, Mary Louise and two children who died in infancy.

They farmed until Vital Hector’s death on November 1, 1903. Roalie spoke only French, which was not a problem in Turton, South Dakota at that time since the butcher, baker and priest were also French Canadian. After Vital died she became the housekeeper to the priest, Father Guenard. ^[1]She died on March 13, 1915, in Turton, South Dakota, at the age of 72, and was buried there.

Rosalie was born on 24 March 1842 in St. John's, Quebec, Canada.^[2][3]

When Rosalie was 22 she married Vital Victor Hector Bourassa on 22 November 1864 in Lacadie, Quebec, Canada. The couple had 8 children: Napolean Paul Bourassa, Victor Paul Bourassa, Rose Bourassa, Hector Bourassa, Caroline Bourassa, Frederick Alfred Bourassa, Mary Bourassa and Mary Louise Bourassa.^{[5][6] [7]}

In the 1870 census Rosalie (age 28) was living in Bourbonnais, Kankakee, Illinois, USA.^[2]

In the 1880 census Rosalie (age 38) was living in Sumner, Kankakee, Illinois, USA.^[8]

In the 1900 census Rosalie (age 58) was living in Doland, Spink, South Dakota, USA.^[9]

In the 1910 census Rosalie (age 68) was living in Turton, Spink, South Dakota, USA.^[10]

Rosalie died at the age of 72 on 13 March 1915 in Turton, Spink, South Dakota, USA.^[11]

She is buridd at the Saint Josephs Cemetery, Turton, Spink County, South Dakota.^[12]
