Biography

  • Around 1823 Antoine began a life-long relationship with Pélagie BOUCHER, teenage daughter of a Montagnaise (Chipewyan) woman and Joseph BOUCHER (1775-1874) from Quebec, and independent fur trader, trapper and fisherman.
  • The 1901 Census taken at Devil’s Lake, North-West Territories (nineteenth century spelling; now Saskatchewan) shows Pélagie living in the home of Paul DeLaronde Sr. and Sophie Morin, one of her daughters. Sophie had previously been married to a man with the surname Linklater. Sophie and Paul had one daughter. In the 1901 Census, Pélagie was recorded as being 106-years-old; however, her actual age would have been closer to 95. As indicated by these census documents, many people gave estimates of their age and other birth information." [1]
