Biography

François de Bourbon, Comte de Vendôme (abt (1470 - 30 October 1495) was a French nobleman..

François, born around 1470 at Vendôme, was the son of Jean VIII de Bourbon, Count of Vendôme and Isabelle de Beauvau. He became Count of Vendôme at the age of 7, upon his father's death. During his minority, his estates were administered by his brother-in-law Louis de Joyeuse.

In 1487, he married Marie de Luxembourg, comtesse de Saint-Pol, the widow of Jacques, Duke of Savoy. They had six children:

  1. Charles de Bourbon, Duke of Vendôme (1489-1537)
  2. Jacques (1490-1491)
  3. François (1491-1545), Count of Saint Pol and of Chaumont, Duke of Estouteville
  4. Louis (1493-1557), Cardinal de Bourbon, Archbishop of Sens
  5. Antoinette de Bourbon (1493-1583), married Claude, Duke of Guise
  6. Louise (1495-1575), Abbess of Fontevraud.

François also had a son, Jacques de Bourbon, by Isabeau de Grigny.

He died on 30 October 1495 in Vercelli, Italy, aged only 25. He was succeeded by his son Charles IV de Bourbon. His wife was regent during Charles' minority.
