Biography

Anthony Bourchier, son of Maurice Bourchier of Berkeley in Gloucestershire and his wife, Joan, was born by 1521.[1]

By 1541 he had married Thomasin Mildmay daughter of Thomas Mildmay of Chelmsford in Essex. Together they had three sons and a daughter.[1] In November 1544 Anthony was appointed principal auditor to the household of Queen Catherine Parr and appointed to her council in December of that year. He remained in the Queen's service in her widowhood and during her marriage to Admiral Thomas Seymour.

He was elected to Parliament as member for New Shoreham in 1547.[1]

Grant of Arms in 1548-1549.[2]

Anthony purchased the Manor of Barnsley in Gloucestershire which he made his home and died there on 13 July 1551.

In his will dated 13 July 1551 and proved 01 Aug 1551 he was recorded as "Anthony Borchier of Bardesley in the Countie of Gloucester Esquier".[3] His will was to be buried in the "churche of our Lady of Barkelye" [Berkeley, Gloucestershire]. He made bequests to his father Maurice and his mother Johane; and to his wife Thomasine. He noted his brother John Borchier, deceased, and his wife Alice [living]. He requested that his wife should be good to his and her natural children [not named]. His wife Thomasine was nonimated sole Executrix.

Research Notes

Death: The biography above says he died at his home (the Manor of Barnsley). His History of Parliament Online biography says he purchased Barnsely and died on a visit there, leaving a deathbed will that he did not live to sign.[1] (I'm still working on adding inline citations, and I haven't found the source of the other statement yet. ~ Noland-165, 14 June 2021)

detached Eleanor (Manners-41) Bouchier as his mother and wife.

Sources call his mother Joan and name only one wife: Thomasine (Mildmay) Thomas.

Thomasine was also reattached as the mother of Thomas Bourchier-61 (instead of Eleanor).
