Biography

FRANCOIS ALEXANDRE DAIGLE is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 8 Right: Le Beaumont. Listed with him is his wife, Rose Adelaide Bourg, and two children: Emelie Adelaide and Francois Joseph Daigle.[1]

Rose Adelaide Bourg, daughter of exiled Acadians Charles Joseph Bourg and Rosalie Doiron, was born on 14 October 1765 in Le Havre, Normandie (today Seine-Maritime), France, and was baptized the following day at the church of Notre-Dame there.[2]

She married Francois Alexandre Daigle on 23 September 1783 in Chantenay, Bretagne (today Loire-Atlantique), France.[3]

In September of 1784, with their first child they were on the list of the Acadian families "who want to go to Louisiana to establish themselves at the expense of His [Spanish] Catholic Majesty," in Nantes, France.[4]

They sailed from Nantes on June 11, 1785 and arrived with two children at the port of New Orleans on 19 August 1785.[5]

She died in Louisiana and was buried on 19 July 1804 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. [6]
