Slave Owner

Research Notes

Tom was born about 1820. He was transferred by will from Samuel Harrison (1777-1837) to Sam's nephew and heir Joseph H. Harrison (1780-1835). Joseph predeceased Sam and in Joseph's inventory and distribution, Tom was transferred to Joseph's widow, Mary J. Harrison (1792-1877). There is one other enslaved person with the surname Bourke on Samuel Harrison's original list: Peggy (Harrison) Bourke (abt.1787-). They were not listed together on the original list. On that 1837 list, Peggy is 50 years old and Tom is 17. Peggy may have been Tom's mother or grandmother.
