William and Margaret, where just 21 years when they married unusually for those days in a registry office in Geelong, Victoria Australia, Family tradition has it that she was a Catholic and he a Protestant.
I also have problems with her maiden name, she was not literate and it is spelt 3 different ways in official documents, Burke. Bourke and Burk, I have chosen Bourke.
On her marriage certificate , her surname is listed as Burk, her parents are listed as James Burk, and her mother as Mary Nee Torpey, however on her death certificate, her father is listed as Michael Burke, as the information on the death certificate was given by her grandson, I would regard the information on her marriage certificate as more reliable as I would suppose that she herself would have given that information. On her death cerifictae there are 5 children listed, on her husband's death certificate there are 6, another named William. . I am not sure about the discrepancy about the number of children it may be that William (the younger) died between the years of 1899 and 1919, but usually I have seen such children as listed as dead or died, or that the informant on Margaret's death certificate was not aware of another child.
On her death certificate there are 5 children listed Mary Jane, Robert Henry, Catherine, Agnes, and Eliza,
They are both buried in the Mt Duneed cemetery, Victoria, Australia
