Michael Burke was born in Ireland.

Michael was born in 1808.

Michael and Bridget Burke, immigrated from Templemore in County Tipperary, Ireland, arriving in the colony in 1838 on board the 'William Metcalf' under the command of E. Phillipson. Michael and Bridget arrived free with Michael’s brother John Burke and his family. Michael was aged 28, a labourer, with father William, already living in the colony, ( ? convict???) and mother Eliza Baker.

Michael died in 1881. [1]

ONLY SON OF MICHAEL AND BRIDGET BOURKE: MICKY (MICHAEL) BURKE (1843-1863) AND 7 DAUGHTERS

Michael's father, William Bourke, was a convict, arrived in Australia 21/12/1818. on list of convicts disembarked from the 'Earl St Vincent' and forwarded to Parramatta for distribution (reel 6006, 4/3499p.221). In 1822 he was a servant of Jonathan Russell, attestation as to his character for a ticket of leave.(reel 6026,4/1717pp 125-6). 19/10/1824 a stockman and shepherd to H O'Brien and R H Browne. (Fiche 3080, 4/1836B No 109pp 597-9. 5/11/1824 To take charge of grazing run of R Henry Browne, forty five miles south east of Bathurst. (reel 6013. 4/3512p 687). Copied from State Records Web Page Colonial secretary Index 1788 - 1825. It is known that William & Eliza had two sons John & Michael who migrated to Sydney with their wives Eleanor/Ellen & Bridget in 1838 on board the 'William Metcalf'. It is not known if there are any siblings to John & Michael.

Burke-8968 and Burke-1024 appear to represent the same person because: Similar birth, same parents, arrived as assisted immigrant in 1838. Thanks for reviewing.

Bourke-999 and Burke-1024 appear to represent the same person because: Both the Michael Bourke who arrived on the William Metcalf aged about 28. From baptism record, preferred LNAB seems to be Burke, and birth in 1808. Thanks for reviewing.
