Marguerite was born on 4 March 1755. She had a lay baptism at birth by Paul Blanchard and the official ceremony took place on 16 November 1755.[1] Her parents were Charles Maillet and Marie Babineau. Her godparents were Anselme ? and Marguerite Brau.[2]
Just before Marguerite’s birth, in 1755, her parents were enumerated in the census at Memramcook with one son, likely Jean-Baptiste. [3] The family sought refuge at Camp d’Espérance, Miramichi, around 1756-1757. [4] It is not known if her father was with them since he was killed in 1756. Marguerite was 8 years of age when she was listed among the prisoners at Fort Beauséjour in 1763, with her mother, her siblings Jean-Baptiste and Charles, her grandfather Jean Babinot and aunts and uncles. (all under the last name Babinot)[4][5]
Her mother married Germain Thibodeau around 1767 and the family settled in Memramcook after the Great Upheaval, where their daughter Thècle was born in 1770.
Marguerite and Joseph Léger were married about 1775.
Her date of death is unknown. Removed date 29 March 1837 - it is the date of her brother Jean-Baptiste’s death.
