Biography

Married Rachel Brown, 19 Feb 1815; married Orabell (Arabelle / Arbell) Fearington 2 Feb 1847.

Jackie fathered a total of 18 children who survived to adulthood -- 13 with his first wife and 5 with his second wife.

First person to be buried at Union Cross Friends Meeting Cemetery, Yadkin County, North Carolina. From "The Heritage of Yadkin County" copyright 1981:

Union Cross Friends Meeting began with a man named John Bovender who was known as "Jackie." One of the early German pioneers, he died in 1869 at the age of 87 and was buried in a spot of his own choosing. Oral tradition tells us that he somehow envisioned a church to come later, which was eventually established near his grave.

Several unsourced sites show parents as John Bovender Sr & Mary Martin.

Ex. John Bovender Sr. was born about 1760 in Rhineland, Germany. Mary Martin and John Bovender Sr. were married about 1780 in Surry, North Carolina, USA. He died after 1812 at the age of 52 in Surry, North Carolina, USA. Mary Martin was born in 1759 in Surry, North Carolina, USA.
