Information on Smithfield, Rhode Island:

Central Falls, city, Providence county, Rhode Island, U.S.; it forms part of the lower Blackstone Valley community, which includes the city of Pawtucket and the towns of Cumberland and Lincoln. Central Falls was originally a part of Smithfield, when that town was set apart from Providence (1730). It was included within Lincoln when the territory was again divided in 1871 and was known as Chocolate Mill (a man named Wheat had begun manufacturing chocolate there). It was incorporated as a separate city in 1895 and named for its location between Valley Falls and Pawtucket Falls.

Central Falls has an area of 1.27 square miles (3.29 square km) and claims to be the nation's smallest city. Its chief manufactures are glass products (including tubes for incandescent lamps and glass fibres), textiles and clothing, and wire covering for machinery. Pop. (1992 est.) 17,663.

This note from researcher DT Bunton sheds a bit of light :

"My research interest is the family of Isaac Bowen and Olive Harris buried in the Whipple Hollow Cemetery.

I have found the following information which clarifies the entries for the Bowen family buried in this cemetery."

William Bowen lived in Tiverton, RI and Smithfield, RI and later Northbridge, MA. William was the son of Samuel and Sarah Bowen of Swanzey, MA.

William Bowen married first to Anna Jennings (daughter of John Jennings and Ann Holway) on May 17, 1754. His second wife was named Mary Turpin.

The names of William and Anna Jennings Bowen’s children were:

1. Lemuel Bowen born March 9, 1755. married Huldah Eddy

2. John Bowen born April 16, 1757 married Phebe Congdon

3. William Bowen born March 17, 1761 Tiverton, RI, married Mary Hathaway. This William and Mary are apparently the ones buried in Whipple Hollow Cemetery.

4. Thomas Bowen born April 16, 1763 married Elizabeth Wing

5. Jennings Bowen born June 11, 1765 married Armida Akin

6. Samuel Bowen born March 24, 1768 married Sarah Cole

7. Sarah Bowen born April 27, 1770 married Joshua Congdon

8. Remember Bowen born October 15, 1772 married Joshua Jenkins

9. Anna Bowen born October 15, 1772

10. Isaac Bowen born Dec 30, 1774 married Olive Harris. Isaac died 7 March 1814. He was preceeded in death by his wife Olive Harris Bowen, who died 24 Jan 1813. Olive died in a fever epidemic which was raging at the time in the country. I believe that Isaac died of similar cause as well. Their son Isaac Jr is also buried in the cemetery.

11. Anna Bowen born March 24 1778 in Northbridge, MA, married John H. Olin.
