Biography

OBIT:

Lucinda, a daughter of Mason & Susannah Bowen, was born in Williamstown, Missouri, January 9, 1858, and departed this life March 22, 1929, at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 13 days. She was married to Benjamin McClain, at Williamstown, on March 26, 1872. To this union seven children were born, viz.: two daughters, Mrs. Viola Fretwell and Mrs. Lydia Nichols, both of Williamstown; five sons, Johnnie and Russell, of Williamstown; Mason, of Canton; Charley, of Hugo, Colorado, and Thomas, of Boyero, Colorado. In addition to her husband and children she leaves to mourn their loss, three sisters viz.; Mrs. Mary Hively, of Williamstown; Mrs. Martha Mumma of White Water, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Abie Matlick, of Yola, California, and two brothers, William Bowen, of Fresno and Thomas Bowen of Queen City, Missouri; twenty-two grandchildren and four great grandchildren a host of friends and neighbors. Mrs. McClain united with the M.E. Church at an early age and remained so until she went to the great beyond. During her illness and suffering she was more concerned about the future welfare of her husband and children than her own. A good mother and loving companion has gone, but God who doeth all things well, knoweth best. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, at the M.E. Church, south, in Williamstown, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Bagley, of Monticello. The large crowd of friends there showed the high esteem in which she was held in the community. The pall bearers were five brother-in-laws Lewis, Henry, Phillip, Willie and Lawrence McClain, and one nephew.
