When Clarence Thomas Bowen was born on September 26, 1910, in Carnesville, Georgia, his father, Vernon, was 22 and his mother, Delia, was 20. He had one brother and four sisters. He died on March 27, 2005, in Greenwood, South Carolina,[1] at the age of 94, and was buried in Hodges, South Carolina.[2]

Clarence Thomas "Papa" Bowen, Sr., 94, of Greenwood, SC, widower of Lillie Mae (Boyter) Bowen and Patricia (Parrish) Bowen, died Sunday, March 27, 2005 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Carnesville, GA, he was a son of the late Warran T. and Lila (Voyles) Bowen.
Retired from Stockman Oil Company and Abney Mills, Grendel Plant, he was a member of Greenwood Wesleyan Church for 54 years where he was a member of the Bethel Sunday School Class.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Benton of Damascus, MD, and Janelle B. Seabolt of Greenwood; a son, Clarence Thomas Bowen, Jr. of Simpsonville; a sister, Thelma Lupo of Greenville; two stepchildren, Raymond E. Dill and Eveline D. Wilson, both of Greenwood; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 31, 2005 at the Greenwood Wesleyan Church. Burial followed in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
