When Oscar Bowen was born on August 13, 1929, in Abbeville, South Carolina, his father, Oscar, was 52 and his mother, Eva, was 36. He had five brothers and seven sisters. His birth was a tough one involving forceps, which contributed to a cerebral hemorrhage that caused his death on August 19, 1929,[1] in his hometown within a year of his birth, and was buried in Anderson, South Carolina.[2]
