Biography

The daughter of George Bowen and Philomela (Booth) Bowen, Lemira was born in New York in 1808.[citation needed] She married Charles A. Prisbrey (1809-1842), the son of William Prisbrey and Elizabeth Thompson, migrating to the Michigan Territory around 1834, among the early settlers of Medina Township. Their children included:

  1. Charles Prisbrey (1835-)
  2. Philomela (Prisbrey) Crane (1837-1920)[1]

Her husband passed away in 1842 and Philomela remarried, marrying William F. Pierce (1802-1884), the son of John S. Pierce and Deborah Field. Philomena and William married before 1850,[citation needed] when they farmed in Ogden Township, in Lenawee County.[2] In 1850, their household included not just Lemira and William, but William's five youngest children with his first wife, Sally Taylor, and also Lemira's two children from her first marriage. William Pierce and Sally Taylor had divorced, with Sally leaving her children and marrying Horace Hayt. In 1860, Lemira and William, along with Myron and Lydia Pierce, minors, lived in Madison Township.[3][4]

Lemira Pierce passed away at the age of 83 and is buried at Crane Cemetery in Lenawee County, Michigan.[5]

Research Notes

No divorce record was found, so it's possible that William Pierce's youngest children were children of Lemira Bowen and not Sally Hayt.

Pierce-14046 and Bowen-9464 appear to represent the same person because: they are the same person. Please see the profile for Bowen-9464, Lemira Bowen, for proper sourcing and attributions, sources, etc. That bio & sourcing should be used in the final merged profile.

Pierce-14046 and Bowen-9464 do not represent the same person because: Sorry, thought I was initiating a merge for the wife of William Pierce, not the child.
