Death. — One of the oldest residents of Dungog passed peacefully away on Saturday last, at a ripe old age, in the person of Mrs James Hicks. Deceased lady was 69 years of age, and had resided in Dungog for over 50 years. She was of a most kindly and generous disposition, and was much beloved by a large circle of relatives and friends. Death was caused through failure of the heart's action. She leaves a large family of grown up sons and daughters and a sorrowing husband to mourn their loss. The funeral, which took place on Sunday afternoon, was very largely attended. Deceased's husband being a member of the Oddfellows' Lodge the local members of the Order marched in order preceding the hearse. The Raymond Terrace band, situated at the intersection of Dowling and Chapman Streets feelingly played the Dead March in Saul as the procession turned into the former street. Her remains were interred in the Church of England portion of the Dungog cemetery. The Rev. O. E. Hill conducted the burial service.[5]
