Biography

David Bowers was born in Scotland about 1840.

He worked as a Seaman and settled in New Zealand about 1864. He captained on the ship 'Matilda Jane in 1866 and the Cutter 'Jane' in 1871.

In 1867 he married Georgina Mearns, also of Scotland, at Dunedin's Knox Church. He and Georgina had 10 children but only 5 lived past infancy, two were named after him.

David died at Dunedin Hospital age 46 in 1886. He is buried at Northern Cemetery. BLK 33, PLOT 31.
