Biography

Henry N. Bowers was born 6 Jul 1882 in Booneville, Logan County, Arkansas. Henry was the son of William Bowers and Mary E. Allen of Magazine,Logan County, Arkansas. Henry was their first born child. In 1900 Henry is listed on the U.S. Census for the first time.[1] He is already 17 years old and has a younger brother, Everett Allen Bowers, 14 years old born in Oct 1885; a younger brother Robert T. Bowers, 10 years old born in March 1890 and a younger sister Myrtle C. Bowers, 6 years old born in June 1893. Henry's Grandmother, Matilda C. Allen, 70 years old is living with them. Henry's father is a Farmer. On 5 Jan 1905 Henry N. Bowers married Lydia (Lyda) Durham in Logan County, Arkansas.[2] Lydia was the daughter of Rev. James L. Durham Sr. and Martha J. (unknown) of Washburn, Logan County, Arkansas. Rev. James L. Durham was born in South Carolina.[3] On 11 Feb 1907 Vivian V. Bowers was born in Magazine, Logan County, Arkansas. In Feb 1909 Lenial G. Bowers was born in Logan County, Arkansas. In 1910 Henry is 27 years old and Lydia is 22 years old.[4] Henry is working as a Section Railroad Hand. Henry and Lydia are living on Wood Street in Reveille, Logan County, Arkansas. Vivian is 3 years old and Lenial is 1 year and 3 months old. On 12 Sep 1918 Henry Bowers registered for the World War I Draft in Fort Smith, Arkansas.[5] Henry is working as a Waiter at Peoples' Cafe 920 Garrison Ave., Fort Smith. He is living at 106 North 9th Street in Fort Smith. Henry is 36 years old. In 1942 Henry registered for the World War II Draft in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Henry was 59 years old. He stated that he was living at 804 North 2nd Street in Fort Smith. He listed his sister Mrs. Cordia Daniels in Magazine Arkansas as someone who would always know his address.[6] Henry is unemployed. On 12 Nov 1951 Henry N. Bowers passed away in a Fort Smith Hospital. He was living at 222 North 3rd Street, Fort Smith according to Forrest Park Cemetery records.[7] Henry is buried in the Lawndale Section, Lot 57B, Space 2.

Research Notes

I completely lost track of Henry in 1920 and 1930. I am not sure that Henry and Lydia remained married.
