Biography

Robert Leroy “Bobby” Bowers Sr., 79, of Taneytown died peacefully at his home Tuesday, January 7, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born October 14, 1934 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Monroe and Isabelle Rinehart Bowers. He was the husband of Arlene Ahn Bowers, to whom he was married for nearly 54 years.

Robert was a bulldozer operator and was co-owner of the Bowers Company in Littlestown. He enjoyed woodworking and his work in excavating. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball and served as Assistant Scoutmaster of the Boy Scout Troop in Taneytown. He was also an avid hunter and diehard New York Yankees fan. Bobby enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Randall Bowers of Taneytown; brother, Jackie Bowers of Taneytown; friend and daughter-in-law, Wendy Beverly Bowers; grandchildren, Sarena and Jared Bowers; sisters-in-law, Anna Turvin of East Berlin, PA, and Helen Burrier of Detour; three nieces; one nephew; and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by son, Robert Leroy Bowers, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD with the Rev. Anne C. Durboraw officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Rocky Ridge. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Wedding Bowers--Ahn Miss Arlene Marjorie Ahn, daughter of Mrs. Helen E. Ahn, Detour. Md.. and Robert LeRoy Bowers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Monroe L. Bowers. Taneytown. were married recently in the Tabor Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge. Rev. Donald Brake performed the double-ring ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her godfather. Mrs. Helen Burner was the matron of honor and Mrs. Anna Turvin the bridesmaid. Both attendants are sisters of the bride. Brenda Bowers, cousin of the groom, the flower girl. Jack Bowers, brother of the groom, was the best man. The ushers were Wilbur Thomas and Richard Baumgardner. Steven Turvin. nephew of the bride, the 'ring bearer. A reception followed the ceremony in the social hall of the church. Following a wedding trip in the South the couple will reside in Taneytown. The bride is a graduate of Elmer Wolfe High School, Union Bridge and a graduate of the Frederick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, where she been employed. The groom attended Taneytown High School and is now associated with his father and uncle in the firm of Bowers Brothers.^[2]
