ALLEN BOWIE, JR., of The Hermitage, Montgomery County, Maryland; b. near Upper Marlboro 1736-1737; d. 1803; was Captain in the 29th Battalion of the Maryland troops in the Revolutionary War; in 1774 and 1775 he was a Delegate to the Conventions held at Annapolis to protest against the Stamp Act and to devise means for resistance; was one of the leading patriots of his country during the American Revolution ( The Maryland Archives record that Col. Allen BOWIE, Jr., of Montgomery County be reimbursed for expenses incurred in providing for the worth of his Regiment); m. 28th December, 1766, his stepsister Ruth CRAMPHIN, dau. of Thomas CRAMPHIN, Sr., and Mary JACKSON.
