Born while his parents were briefly studying in Colorado, Gavin spent his childhood in Winterport, Maine. The family farm, High Acres, was approximately 360 acres on Goshen Rd.
Gavin attended Culver Summer School in 1984-85. He attended Culver Military Academy from 1985-89. He was a varsity equestrian and polo player.
Gavin attended Skidmore College from 1989-1993. He was a polo player, and graduated with a dual BS in Business and Art.
Gavin attended University of Maryland School of Architecture from 1995-1998. He graduated with a Master of Architecture in December 1998.
He married Meredith Anne Grady on June 17th, 2001. They separated in 2004 and were divorced with no children.
Gavin married Sarah Elyse Mars on June 4, 2011. They have two sons, Graham Wingate Bowie, born 2014 and William Malkim Bowie, born 2016.
Gavin co-founded Wingate Hughes Architects in 2010. He is currently a resident of Washington DC.
Gavin is the first born son of the Bowies descended from George Bowie, and has several notable ancestors.
