John Bowker died of asphyxiation along with his eldest son in the Black Mine Flowery Field Colliery Explosion on 8-Apr-1842
He and his eldest son were employed as colliers in the Black Mine Flowery Field Colliery. On 8 Apr 1842 at mid-day, there was a carburated gas explosion (fire damp) at the lower level of the mine. John and his son, William both perished from asphyxiation. He was buried on 12 April 1842 at the cemetery at St George, Hyde, Cheshire.
