John owned property on the banks of the Pamunkey River, land he inherited from his father, William.

2 Sep 1762. [one week after John Wisdom's will was probated] Orange-VA Order Book 6, p675. At a court held 2 Sep 1762, ordered that the sheriff summon John Bolling and Ursula his wife, to appear at the next court to be guardian to the children of said Ursula, by her former husband. (Research of microfilm by Joyce Poole; looked thru several following court sessions, but no further mention of these guardianship proceedings).

Note

Last name Bowling and Bolling seem to be interchanged on various court records, so leaving name as Bolling. Per Bowling-539 William Bowling was on the tax list of Orange Co., Va. in 1737. A study of the transaction found in Deed Book 12, p. 67 Orange County, Va. is an aid in estimating the date of William's birth, viz: "August. 29, 1749, George Taylor, Gent., Orange Co., Va. and William Bolling of said county; of the other part. …57 acres to William Bolling and his wife, Ann,"

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Bowling-2097 and Bolling-939 are listed on profiles as brothers. I don't see two children being named John, born with in 5 years of each other. And I don't find either have proof of DOD. They are listed as having same children. Trying to find out which DOD could be possible

Bowling-2097 and Bolling-939 appear to represent the same person because: they share a similar birth year and the same spouse, Ursula Bell. The difference in the spelling of surnames needs to be rectified.
