Biography

Obituaries of People Buried at McGlothlin (pre 1924), Andrew County, Missouri

Date of death: 25 Sep 1889 Subject: Casper Bowman Source: Holt County [MO] Sentinel, 11 Oct 1889, p. 1

"Casper Bowman died at Rosendale, Andrew county, Mo., a few days ago aged ninety [likely a close guess by the newspaper] years. He took up the claim on which he died, fifty years ago, and lived there continuously."

Admin. note: I believe this is the same Casper Bowman, born in KY to John Bowman, who came to Andrew County in the 1830's. He was married 5 Aug 1830 in Bracken County Kentucky to Mary Ann (nee Hutchison) Bowman, also born in KY. BLM General Land Office records show him purchasing land in Andrew County in 1846, along with an Abraham and an Isaac Bowman, who also received land the same year. Unknown if they are all related. [There were many Bowmans named Casper; apparently a family name for some generations. Casper Bowman's father, John Bowman, was likely born in Pennsylvania, per 1880 Census for Casper.]

Taken from a bio of Hobson/Jones. Isaac Newton Jones m. Casper and Mary Ann's daughter, Susan:

A History of Northwest Missouri, Volume 3 edited by Walter Williams

"...Mr. [Isaac Newton] Jones was married in 1871 to Susan Bowman, who was born in Andrew County December 30, 1848, and has spent practically all her days within the limits of this county. Her parents were Casper and Mary Ann (Hutchinson) Bowman, both natives of Kentucky. Her father was born in 1802 and died at the age of eighty-seven [est. 1889], and her mother was born in 1811 and died at the age of eighty-nine [est. 1900]. They moved from Kentucky to Northwest Missouri with five children during the latter '30s, and spent the rest of their days on a farm six miles northeast of Savannah, on land that had been entered by John Bowman, father of Casper..."

There is no tombstone for Casper. His wife, Mary Ann Hutchison Bowman, is likely buried in the same cemetery, but no proof has been found to place her death/burial.

Burial: Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery Idaho Falls Bonneville County Idaho, USA
