Biography
Helen B. Bowman was born about 1843 based on ages shown in censuses and her death record. She was born in Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland to John Bowman and Euphemia Caldwell. No record of a marriage between John and Euphemia has been found. No record for Helen's birth or baptism has been found.

Helen had a son, William, by William Hamilton[4]
on 23 September 1861 in Maybole. Helen and William did not marry.

Helen married James Mcwhirter 3 June 1870 in Springburn, Lanarkshire

and they were living there the next year.

By 1881 they were in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire

and by 1891 in Clydebank, where Helen would live out the rest of her life.
