Biography
Lona was born in Patrick, VA in 1889 to Pleasant Bowman and Miney Hooker
She married Eli Dawson in 1911[1], but they had separated sometime around 1917 or 1918. She was listed as divorced in the 1920 census.[2]
She married Prince Albert Hill on 30 August 1937 in York County, SC and they divorced in 1953. [3]
About 1954, she was living in Norfolk, VA with her son William who was undergoing treatments for cancer of the larynx. It's unknown where she went after his death on January 10, 1955.
Research Notes
She was the owner of several cemetery plots in Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy, but she herself was not buried there as far as I can determine. She is listed as the owner on plots for her father Pleasant as well as her brothers Edgar Mour and Hugh and her sister Bertha Tolbert. Other plots owned by Lona are occupied by Jim Burrus and James & Martha Montgomery, relationship unknown.
Miney Davis is also buried in a plot she owns - could this be a relative on her mother's side?
All the plots are located in Section 14, Row 20.[4]
