William was born in 1731. He passed away about 1820.
There are some indications in the documentary record of Henrico County, that this William Bowman may be linked to the Bermuda Hundred / Roxdale Hundred family that first appears in Virginia documents about 1655. The founder of the family was Robert Bowman Sr who died about 1670. His son and principal heir was Robert Bowman Jr who sailed for England with his wife Sarah in 1678, with no clear record of his return. Robert Sr seems to have had a daughter, Mary, who married Richard Hudson about 1650, and at least two other sons, Gilbert and William, both of whom were dead when Robert Jr sailed for England in 1678. Robert Jr left behind two sons, Edward Sr and John Jr. A John Sr remained also, but it is unclear if he was a brother or a son to Robert Jr by a first wife. William Bowman left legacies to a William Hudson and a William Bowman. Other records mention a younger Robert Bowman. This William Bowman born in Prince George County about 1730 could connect, possibly through John Jr or the younger William Bowman left a gift by the older William, or through the younger Robert. Y-Chromosome testing by a descendant of Edward Bowman Sr and a descendant of John Jr has provided a match, both exhibiting the haplotype G-M201. If a direct male-line descendant of William Bowman and Elizabeth Thompson is tested and shows the G-M201 haplotype, then we seemingly should be able to link this line to the Bermuda Hundred family, [1]
