Biography

Ruanna was born in December 30, 1868 in the Richland district of Ohio County, West Virginia. He parents were Edward Bowman a laborer and his wife Mary. Her mother was the informant on the record of her birth.


22 October 1890

Benjamin Green and Ruanna Bowman were married on 22 October 1890. The groom was 26 and the bride was 21. They were both born in Ohio County. The marriage was vouched for by Ed Bowman.


1900 Census

The Benjamin Green family lived in Washington District, Wheeling, West Virginia in 1900. Benjamin is 36. He is a teamster who rents his home. He and his wife, Annie 30, have been married for 9 years and have had 3 children. Two of their children are still living, William is 8 and Harold is 3. Everyone in the household was born in West Virginia as were their parents.


1910 Census

The Benjamin Green family was living in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1910. They lived near Alley 16. Benjamin was 45 years old and he and his wife had been married for 19 years. His parents were both from West Virginia. He worked as a teamster at the feed store. He was able to read and write and rented his home. His wife, Anna was 41. Her father was from West Virginia and her mother was from Ohio. Benjamin and Anna had four children, three of whom were still living. Their son, William was 18 and worked as a machinist at the tin mill. Harold was 13 and Zelda was 9. Zelda attended school.


13 May 1919

Benjamin Green died in Wheeling on 13 May 1919 of osteomalacia infection at age 54. He was born on 21 May 1864 in Ohio County, West Virginia to William Green and Rachel (Bahanna) Green. Both of his parents were also born in Ohio County. The informant was William Green.

He was buried at Linwood Cemetery on 15 May 1919.

Benjamin Green's obituary was published on 14 May 1919.

Benjamin Green died at his home 76, 18th Street on Tuesday following an illness of three years at age 55. He was born in Ohio County May 21, 1864 to William and the late Rachel Bahanna Green. He was a member of the Zane lodge, No. 1 and Shield of Honor.

He was survived by his widow; one daughter, Zelda; two sons Harold, at home; and Wiliiam of Bridgeport; his father, William Green, three sisters, Mrs. J.W. Koontz of New Martinsvlle; Mrs. Joel Eden of Martin's Ferry and Mrs. Harry Barcus of Sebring, Ohio. Also, three brothers J.W. and Frank of Warwood and Edward of Wellsville, Ohio.

Reverend E.G. Howard, pastor of the First English Lutheran church will officiate at the funeral. Interment to be made at Linwood Cemetery, Blaine, Ohio.


1920 Census Ruanna Green lived in on 18th Street in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1920. She was a 57 year old widow who had been born in West Virginia. Her father was from Germany and her mother was born in Pennsylvania. She rents their home. Her son Harrald is 23 and works in the office at the iron mill. Her daughter, Zelda is 18 and does office work in the dry goods business.


1930 Census

Ruanna Green is recorded in the 1930 Census in the home of her son James W. Green in Bridgeport Village, Ohio, United States. She is a 61 year old widow. She and her parents were born in West Virginia.


1940 Census

Ruanna Green is recorded in the 1940 Census in the home of her son James Green in Bridgeport Village, Ohio, United States. She is a 71 year old widow. She and her parents were born in West Virginia.
