BETTY RICKEY, 79
Betty Jane Rickey, 79, of St. Charles, Ill., passed awaySunday, November 10, 2002, at Rosewood Care Center in St.Charles.
She wasborn September 12, 1923, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the daughter of Henry and Bess Freeman Bowman.
Betty graduated from Western College for Women, which was merged into Miami of Ohio in Oxford, Ohio. She received her degree in teaching. Betty and her husband of 56 years, Jim, were long time residents of Glenview, where they were active members of the Glenview United Methodist Church. Betty served in various positions within the church, doing whatever was needed including serving as an advocate for the Daycare Center for the children who were dear to her heart. In April 1987, they moved to St.Charles and again Betty and Jim were active participants at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church and the community. She was a member of Sarah Circle, a charter of St. Charles Daughters of the American Revolution and volunteered her time as bellringer for the Salvation Army Christmas kettles.
Betty is survived by her husband, Jim.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 14,2002, at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar Ave.,St. Charles, with the Rev. Richard L. French officiating.Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until the time of the funeralserviceat the church. Graveside services will be Saturday,November 16, 2002, at 1 a.m. at Woodland Cemetery, with Dr.Wayne Youngofficiating.
Contributions in Mrs. Rickey's memory may be mae to Tri-City Corps of the Salvation Army, 1710 South Seventh Ave., St.Charles, IL 60174, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 4709 GolfRoad, Skokie, IL 60076.
Arrangements are by the Norris Funeral Home, 100 South ThirdSt., St. Charles and Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 South SeventhSt.,Ironton.
