Biography

James Box was born I801 in Smith County, Tennessee. He married 1st Sarah Livingston (no date); and later married Minerva Bell Smith and had the following children listed in the 1850 Census of Tishomingo Co. MS: 1. Stephen, born I833 in AL. He was the oldest but listed last among the children. Possibly indicating he was son of 1st wife. To make i t more confusing he is also listed in the I850 Tippah Co., Miss, census 2nd Dist. 563/563 in the household of W.R.H. Moseley a schoolteacher, and i s then marked along with two other boys as attending school. 2. Julia born 1842, Mississippi. 3. James, born 1847, Mississippi. 4. Virginia, born 1849. Mississippi

In the 1860 Census of Tishomingo Co., Jame Box is listed as age 59 b. in TN as a well-to-do farmer. His wife, Mannie was age 58, b. in TN. Four children were in their household: Stephen A. Box, age 27, b. in AL was a merchant; Julia F. Box was age 16, b. in MS; James J. Box was age 13, b. in MS and Virginia M. was age 10. b. in MS
